What is CBG?

You’ve heard about it’s cousin, but what is CBG?

CBG, short for cannabigerol, is another of the canna-compounds found naturally in the hemp plant.  Its typically fairly scarce in the plant because of how the plant grows.  As a young plant, hemp begins manufacturing CBGa (cannabigerolic acid) early on.  As the plant matures and the acid inside of it ages, this acid turns into CBDa and THCa.  And, these acids ultimately convert into all the canna-compounds we know to exist in the hemp plant….like cannabidiol (CBD) and others.  As you might imagine though, since the CBG is continually becoming other compounds, there’s not much cannabigerol at any given time in one plant.  Since there’s not much of this compound in the hemp plant, it’s importance has been overlooked for decades.  But, now the light is beginning to shine!

What is CBG used for?

Well, like CBD, we cannot say that it can help anyone with anything in particular, due to FDA guidelines.  However, here’s what we CAN say:

A.  Many of the benefits for which people have been smoking marijuana for years, such as reducing glaucoma and stimulating appetites, might just be attributed in some parts to CBG.  You can read more information about this here, but below is just some of the research-supported benefits CBG may help with:

  • Glaucoma
  • Appetite Stimulant
  • Anti-Bacterial
  • IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease)
  • Huntington’s Disease
  • Bladder Dysfunctions (overactive bladder)
  • Pain Reduction
  • Inflammation Reduction
  • Increased Bone Growth
  • Skin Conditions
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Depression

Will CBG Help if CBD Doesn’t?

This is an excellent question.  And, like many things to do with our body, the only simple answer is: maybe.  We are all different and we all have different internal chemistries, genetics, and so forth.  And, because of this one natural remedy may help one person with their well-being, but not another.  For some, CBD helps with particular chronic conditions and for others, CBG provides the best relief.  Some get equal relief from both.  We wish there was a point-blank answer, but unfortunately, ESPECIALLY with chronic health issues, many people find that they need to take a try-and-see approach to find what works best for them.

Should I Buy CBG or CBD?

Like our CBD products, our CBG hemp oil products also have many other cannabinoids.  But, these CBG products have a heightened amount of CBD in them, too.  So, you’re sure to get a healthy amount of both compounds if you use these.  If you use our regular CBD products, they will only have the naturally occurring level of CBG, which is relatively low.  Your best bet are these.  However, as pointed out in the above section, everyone is different and there is no simple, exact answer that covers everyone.

Does CBG have Any Bad Side Effects?

We have not had any reports of side effects other than possibly being very calm and relaxed when taking more than their body needs.
