Talk to the many people who have been using CBD in recent years and they’ll rave about the work done to help their anxiety. While there haven’t been enough peer-reviewed studies on how exactly CBD works to help deal with common issues, it turns out it’s good for issues in children.
If you’re considering using CBD oil for kids, you need to do your research in advance.
Here are four things to know about CBD for kids before you start adding it to their juice boxes.
1. Learn The Acronyms
When you’re trying to find out whether or not CBD is safe for kids, you need to get informed. Your knee-jerk reaction might be a negative one, but if you don’t understand what hemp plants have, you won’t know what’s at stake.
In hemp, there are two main compounds, THC and CBD, which offer two very different things.
In marijuana, THC is the active ingredient that helps in medicinal and recreational usage to give the feeling of being high. It binds with the CB1 receptors in the brain to create that feeling of being high. When medication has a CBD to THC ratio that balanced in favor of the THC, it’s going to get the person taking it more physically high.
However, there are CBD products that exists with hardly any THC to help ensure that the effects of CBD can be enjoyed without getting high. These are CBD products from Hemp. CBD leaves the CB1 receptors alone, keeping you from getting high.
When you purchase products with very little THC, yet high in CBD, one doesn’t get high from it even as you enjoy the benefits of the CBD.
Over the counter products with CBD found in medical marijuana stores generally have high levels of THC. Check to see the percentage of what they rate it as having. Giving hemp CBD products to a child isn’t the same as marijuana CBD products.
2. CBD Products Vary Wildly
In most cases, it’s totally illegal for CBD products to contain THC above .3% (3/10%). While this is a general law applying to all manufacturing of CBD, not all CBD is sourced the same. With the FDA trying to monitor every new manufacturer that pops up, they easily get overwhelmed.
There are manufacturers that could be making it overseas or shops that could be distributing it all under the radar without anyone knowing. When you’re getting products from a company you’re unfamiliar with, take the time to get to know them before you buy. Do a little searching online to see how they’re reviewed.
If you buy CBD oil over the internet, most places where it’s produced prohibit it from containing THC above .3%.
Before you make any purchases, ask about how other people feel about a product. If you’re giving it to your kid, you can’t be too careful. Screen products like you would anything else.
3. It Has Massive Potential
The use of CBD is such a new phenomenon that we don’t know all of its potentials. However, early research is showing some interesting results. There’s little-documented research because of the lack of legality for so many years.
Ask around and you’ll find lots of anecdotal evidence for it treating everything from autism, anxiety, ADHD, depression, and sensory processing issues. There are parenting message boards online that are nearly devoted to the great role that CBD plays in the lives of children. You’ll even find doctors now who are willing to concede that it works.
There’s a lot more research to be done, but there’s some clear potential to unlock. Consult with a doctor before deciding to give CBD to a child but rest assured that there’s a great possibility for positive results. There are so many ways to administer CBD that you should be able to find a type that you’re comfortable with and that your child will readily take.
If your children are already taking medication, CBD could react with that medication and so you need to consult your doctor first. Your doctor is going to be able to determine how well CBD should work for you and your child. Researching online is one thing, but talking to your doctor offers another set of potentials.
4. You Can Do It Legally
When products are made strictly from hemp, they’re not restricted in the same ways as products that have THC. These types of products can be purchased easily online without the need for any medical card or doctor’s prescription.
Please note: we’re making the designation here that CBD products from hemp are legal in all states and can be purchased easily online. CBD products from marijuana are controlled by each state’s laws and as such, you can only by marijuana products as your state laws allow. But, products from hemp are freely available and easily purchased.
If you’re in a state that allows for legalized marijuana products, you will most likely find CBD products from marijuana available. Be sure to check the THC content of these products before administering to a child, or anyone for that matter. Only CBD products from hemp are naturally low in THC to the point where people do not get “high”.
